Leveraging AI for Security
The case of ASTR
About the Case Study
Somewhere in the valleys of Jammu and Kashmir, a phone rings — untraceable, unverifiable, invisible to anyone trying to stop what’s on the other end of the line.
Behind it: a fake identity, a forged document, and a SIM card that should never have existed.
Across India, this same trick is being played millions of times over. A loophole so vast that manual verification catches barely a fraction of it. Cybercrime syndicates, terror networks, and fraud rings all exploit the same gap: a system built to check identity, but with almost no real way to check it at all.
One official believes a face might be the one thing that can’t be faked as easily as a document. What if an algorithm could look past the paperwork entirely?
The idea is bold, unproven, and threading through some of the most sensitive terrain in Indian security: national intelligence, private telecom data, law enforcement, and millions of citizens’ identities, all at once.
But turning an idea into a system means convincing skeptical companies to hand over data, persuading law enforcement to trust a machine, and proving fast that this actually works before the syndicates adapt.
