The Public Policy Conversation: North-East webinar series continued with a session on “From Vulnerability to Resilience: Rethinking the Future of the Himalayas.”
The discussion focused on the evolving environmental and developmental challenges facing the Himalayan region. It highlighted the need for long-term resilience, climate adaptation, and sustainable approaches to safeguarding fragile mountain ecosystems.
In addition, the session explored how science, policy, and community-led approaches can work together to strengthen ecological and social resilience across the Himalayas. As a result, it offered important insights into reimagining the future of mountain regions in the face of climate and environmental change.

Eklabya Sharma – Dr Eklabya Sharma, Padma Shri Awardee (2024), is Strategic Advisor and Director of The Himalaya Initiative at the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment. With over four decades of experience in Himalayan ecology, climate adaptation, and environmental governance, he has played a significant role in advancing research, policy, and regional cooperation across the Hindu Kush Himalayan region.
