Amarjeet Sinha is a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Social and Economic Progress and serves on advisory and board positions with organisations including PRADAN, HelpAge India, and Sampark Foundation.
A retired Indian Administrative Service officer of the 1983 Bihar cadre, he served as Secretary, Department of Rural Development, Government of India, and as Adviser to the Prime Minister of India until 31 July 2021, overseeing social sector and rural initiatives. With over four decades of experience, he has played a key role in the design and implementation of flagship programmes such as the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and the National Rural Health Mission, alongside leading governance reforms across rural livelihoods, employment, housing, and social protection.
His work spans public policy, human development, and poverty reduction. He has authored several books and policy reports, including An India for Everyone – A Path to Inclusive Development (2013) and The Last Mile – Turning Public Policy Upside Down (2023).
